A Public Market built in the sixties is on the verge of collapse due to lack of parking, infrastructure and an excess of informal stalls all resulting in poor accessibility. The project proposes to “open” all of the market’s facades towards the exterior providing it with an active front which replaces the one that the informal stalls had already created. Public spaces are inserted in the interior of the market which foment the spontaneity inherent to public markets. The spatial configuration is obtained by cutting trajectories through the existing market grid that become shortcuts to the urban surroundings. A new parking for 350 cars, loading bays and a horseshoe shaped second floor which embraces the existing vaults are proposed.
